I have worked with children and young people in an agency setting (13yrs - 24yrs) and at a school (11yrs – 18yrs) on a wide range of issues; from bullying to depression, stress, anxiety and self harming to issues of self worth and body-image, anger and relationship problems. This broad experience helps me to understand the external demands and pressures young people face and also the physical, emotional and mental developmental processes and changes they go through. It can be a stressful and confusing time.
Problems can develop and accelerate quickly and when bottled up can turn into destructive behaviour, - directed towards oneself or others. It is so important to address anything as early as possible. Young people need our respect and support and need to feel someone listens and takes theirconcerns seriously.
I have considerable experience working with young people and this enables me to understand these very specific circumstances. I am able to offer a supportive and neutral environment to help the young person to open up.
I am happy to see your child or teenager in my counselling rooms at Chalfont St Peter or at High Wycombe. I would also consider home visits in certain circumstances. Sometimes a young person feels more comfortable at home but sometimes the separation between home life and the counselling setting is helpful. Please talk to me about this option.
I sometimes see one or both parents with the child. This would need to be discussed but the interaction between parent and child is so very important and working directly with this interaction can be very beneficial.
